Just sent off the final part of The Ugly Stepsister to my lovely alpha readers : ) I can't believe that the story is almost 100,000 words!!! My first book was 26k--at that time I was pulling my hair out, wondering how I could increase my word count to a proper novel. As a reader I've always preferred novels, so when it came to writing my own, I want to emulate the ones I've read and loved.
Because of the monstrous length, I expect that the editing process is going to take longer as well. I'll do an overall edit after my alpha readers return it, then send the book to beta readers, edit again, and then give it to my copy editor. So this means we're looking at a release next year. Sigh. I wish I could publish faster, but this year I've only released one book. At least I'm glad that Ugly Stepsister won't need major editing. I'll definitely have to fix some plot flaws, add more description, do more research, show-not-tell...but at least the main plot is solid! And I love it, I seriously believe this is the best story I've written yet.
Meanwhile, I plan to catch up on reading some books of my writer friends, release a box set of the princess books, and start gearing up for Nanowrimo. I'm going to write the sequel to Girl with Flying Weapons-- finally!
